This recognition confirms Catalonia’s innovative tourism model, where the gastronomic revolution goes beyond restaurants, showcasing the region’s unique local products.
The Region of Gastronomy Award aims to contribute to a better quality of life by raising awareness about the importance of cultural and food uniqueness, stimulating creativity and gastronomic innovation, educating for better nutrition, improving sustainable tourism standards, highlighting distinctive food cultures, and strengthening community well-being.

Barcelona remains the capital of Gastronomy with 35 Michelin stars. Therefore, Catalonia is the first Michelin-starred territory of the Iberian Peninsula. Throughout Catalonia, there are 53 restaurants with Michelin Stars, which accounts for a total of 69 stars for the three categories. Forty-one restaurants have 1 Michelin Star, 8 have 2 Michelin Stars, and 4 have 3 Michelin Stars.
In 2021, Michelin introduced the ‘Green Star’ award, recognising quality prepared in a sustainable manner and chefs particularly committed to the environmental cause. A total of 27 establishments were named in this category in 2022, and 2 more have been added in regard to the 2023 edition, including El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Casa Albets in Lladurs, Hermanos Torres Kitchen in Barcelona, Els Casals in Sagàs, L’Antic Molí in Ulldecona, Les Cols in Olot, Lluerna in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Somiatruites in Igualada, Les Moles in Ulldecona, and Casa Nova in Sant Martí Sarroca. Also, 3* new Bib Gourmand restaurants join Casa Albets (Lladurs) and Somiatruites (Igualada), to an award that distinguishes restaurants which offer a refined cuisine at an affordable price, without reaching the star. Those are Baló and Nairod in Barcelona and La Xarxa in Tarragona. Additionally, Michelin rewards chefs with the Chef Mentor award, which this year has been awarded to Joan Roca from El Celler de Can Roca (Girona, Costa Brava).
