Bordeaux, often called the “Port of the Moon,” is a city that needs no introduction. Its rich history, stunning architecture, and world-renowned wine regions have made it a must-visit destination for travellers from around the globe. But while Bordeaux is celebrated for its historic charm, it also offers a glimpse into its modern side, and there’s no better place to experience this fusion of past and present than at Bordeaux’s newest Hotel, the FirstName Hotel.
Getting to Bordeaux and Mériadeck:
Before we delve into the wonders of FirstName Hotel, let’s talk about how to get to Bordeaux.
Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is the primary international gateway to the city; fortunately, Bordeaux has made it even easier for travellers to reach the city’s heart from the airport with a new tram line. Line A of the Bordeaux tramway (https://www.infotbm.com/en/mode/bus-tramway) connects the airport to various parts of the city, including the Mériadeck district. And the Mériadeck tram stop is just opposite the Hotel, it couldn’t be easier. (Cost a mere €1.80)
Luckily, the Hotel is situated in a very iconic part of Bordeaux; the Mériadeck district is often described as the “Manhattan of Bordeaux” due to its striking modern architecture and high-rise buildings. But there’s more to Mériadeck than meets the eye. The Mériadeck district is a distinctive and contemporary area in the heart of Bordeaux. At the same time, it may not be as well-known as the historic city centre, but it has unique charm and attractions.
Mériadeck is renowned for its modernist architectural style, which sets it apart from the historic architecture found in the city centre. You’ll also find necessary government and municipal offices in this district, including the Bordeaux City Hall (Hôtel de Ville). The Centre Commercial Mériadeck is a large and vibrant shopping centre just a short walk from the FirstName hotel. It’s a very convenient place for visitors to indulge in some retail therapy, with a range of stores and boutiques to explore.
Discovering FirstName Bordeaux Hotel: Where Design Meets Hospitality:
Your journey into modern Bordeaux begins when you step off the tram in the heart of Mériadeck. This modern marvel is the FirstName Bordeaux Hotel. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s an experience in itself. The FirstName Hotel embraces the philosophy of providing a warm and inviting space for guests around the clock. The Hotel is not just your accommodation; it’s your host, chef, mixologist, and even your DJ.
The doors of FirstName Hotel never close, and neither does their kitchen. So, if you arrive early or late, you will find the kitchen is available to you.
Sustainability is at the core of FirstName Hotel’s ethos. You’ll find furnishings made from natural materials, eco-conscious amenities, and a commitment to making your stay as green as possible. Even the luxurious bedding is proudly made in France.
You won’t find things in the hotel like unsustainable single-use slippers, no tiny plastic toiletries, a minibar (imagine the electrical consumption of 178 fridges) and no wasteful coffee machines in every room. Even the wastebins use paper, not plastic bags. How refreshing to see a hotel grabbing sustainability by the neck and doing something. Do we really need our towels changed every day? No, of course, we don’t. So if you really need them to be changed, of course, you can but imagine the saving in electricity, water, detergents and staff time!
A Community Feel:
As a testament to the hotel’s eco credentials, every floor has a kitchenette where you can get coffee, snacks, and apples. These spaces are perfect for sharing a meal or simply connecting with fellow travellers, but yet again, imagine the savings on electricity and carbon emissions. Do we really need a fridge in the room when there is one on the floor you are on?
Comfort and Luxury:
Even though the First Name Bordeaux is very eco-conscious, the Hotel still offers a variety of room categories to cater to your preferences, including Cocoon, Cadette, Canopy, Carat, Cockpit, Collector, and First Suite.
Each room is thoughtfully designed with your comfort in mind, ensuring a restful stay. My room was delightful and beautifully decorated. Again, sustainability comes into play here, and everything in the room was as sustainable as possible. It’s so nice to see hotels behaving in such a manner. Well done First Name Bordeaux.
A Memorable Dining Experience:
FirstName Bordeaux Hotel believes in enhancing every moment, including your dining experience. Expect the best wines, a curated list of cocktails, and an atmosphere that sets the perfect backdrop for your evening. The Hotel’s commitment to music extends to carefully crafting the FirstName playlist to accompany your stay, setting the mood for a memorable experience. A quick look on TripAdvisor tells me all is well with this amazing product:
A friendly hotel with a great feel
We spent a wonderful weekend in the FirstName Bordeaux Hotel – such a refreshing change from the traditional faceless/ stale hotels that are the norm! The hotel itself has a great modern feel, and the communal areas encourage lounging, mixing, chatting and socialising. The staff were really friendly and efficient and couldn’t do more for us. The barman makes unique cocktails – he’s a real artist and a joy to watch.
The food was excellent. All in all, First Name Bordeaux has changed my expectations of hotels, and I hope to be able to visit again soon!
While Bordeaux’s historic charm is undeniable, visiting FirstName Bordeaux Hotel and the Mériadeck district offers a unique perspective on the city’s modernity. It’s a place where design meets hospitality, sustainability is embraced, and every moment is an opportunity to feel good. So, whether you’re in Bordeaux for business, pleasure, or a bit of both, FirstName Bordeaux welcomes you to experience the best of this vibrant city’s modern side. 🌟
When staying at FirstName Bordeaux Hotel, take some time to explore the Mériadeck district itself. Mériadeck is known for its modernist architectural style, characterized by geometric buildings with sleek lines. The Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) stands out with its striking clock tower and often hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
Cultural Attractions:
Despite its primary role as a business district, Mériadeck also offers some cultural attractions worth exploring. For example, the Patinoire Mériadeck is an ice skating rink where you can enjoy skating sessions and ice shows. The Théâtre Femina, located here, hosts various performances, including theatre, music, and dance.
Overall, The First Name Hotel offers a unique blend of modernity, functionality, and cultural elements within the vibrant area of Mériadeck. While it may not be the main tourist hotspot, it’s worth exploring if you appreciate contemporary architecture, want to witness the administrative core of Bordeaux, or are attending an event or performance in the area.
Mériadeck provides a different perspective on the city’s multifaceted character, and the First Name is the jewel in that Crown.
