Stena Line celebrates 2,500 volunteers behind Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games
Over four days (18 – 21 June), volunteers from every corner of Ireland dedicated a remarkable 72,000 hours supporting athletes,
families and organisers across 15 venues in Dublin.

To put that in perspective, if those hours were paid at minimum wage, it would be valued at over €1 million.
Special Olympics athletes took part in competitions including football, swimming, gymnastics, golf, equestrian, basketball, athletics, and many more! You can find the full list of sports at www.irelandgames.ie
As proud sponsors of Special Olympics Ireland, Stena Line is paying tribute to the volunteers whose energy, commitment and passion helped make the Summer Games such a success. In recognition of their remarkable contribution, Stena Line surprised several of them with complimentary Irish Sea ferry travel as a token of appreciation and a chance to enjoy a well-deserved break after the Games.
From welcoming delegations and coordinating transport to supporting competitions and assisting spectators, the volunteers’ efforts helped create an unforgettable experience for the 1,277 athletes who took part.
Competitors ranged in age from 9 to 81 and were cheered on by an average of 1,800 spectators daily. The logistical operation for the Games is equally impressive

“Partnerships like this go beyond supporting sport – they change lives, build stronger communities and foster real inclusion. We are proud that our four-year partnership with Special Olympics Ireland allows us to support the organisation, its athletes and the volunteers whose dedication makes events like these possible.
“The stories behind the Summer Games are exactly the kinds of moments that inspire our #StenaSpecialJourneys campaign, celebrating the people who make a real difference, including the incredible athletes, volunteers and families at the heart of this event.”
Stena Line has also backed the Games’ hugely successful Support An Athlete campaign, which has raised over €120,000 to date. Special Olympics Ireland is encouraging organisations and members of the public to help them get over the line. You can donate by visiting www.irelandgames.ie to donate.
